Managed Networks

Your local network, sorted and cared for

Nothing works without your local network ("the network makes the 'Net work"). Our managed service keeps your business connected without frustrations, through our expert knowledge of switching, routing, firewalls and Wi-Fi. We reduce downtime, enhance security, and free up your team to focus on their workflows.

What's in a network?

Computer networks are the backbone of the modern office, enabling seamless communication, collaboration, and productivity—but not all networks are created equal.

A well-designed network minimises security risks, maximises performance, and scales effortlessly to support future growth. Its effectiveness depends on every link in the chain—from hardware choices and cabling layout to configuration and security measures.

Modern networks typically combine wired and wireless technologies, each with its own strengths and trade-offs. Understanding these differences is crucial to avoiding the cost vs. convenience trap and ensuring a network that is secure, reliable, and future-proof.

Reap the benefits, eliminate the frustrations

Wireless networks have the obvious advantages of flexibility, mobility and ease of setup, but they also bring with them their own set of issues and considerations, often overlooked during basic installations:

Coverage

  • Do you have dead-zones or weak signal areas?
  • Does signal extend too far allowing unauthorised access?
  • Are you suffering dropouts caused by interference?

Performance

  • Is your Wi-Fi coping with your number of devices?
  • Do you use the latest technology for the best experience?
  • Are your wireless access points in optimal positions?

Security

  • Is guest Wi-Fi isolated and configured to prevent abuse?
  • Are you using the latest strong encryption to protect data?
  • Do you have proper segmentation on your network?

Many of these problems are addressed by the choice of appropriate hardware, and strategic positioning of wireless access points (AP):

A heatmap plan (such as the above) can provide a visual indication of the expected levels of coverage which, combined with a site survey and professional installation, ensures consistently high performance across your business.

The wired advantage

Wired networking can mitigate security, reliability and speed concerns which arise in wireless networks

When wired becomes important

These are the key reasons and benefits to hard-wire your machines:

A speedometer

Speed

For reliable connections at Gigabit speeds and above, we recommend wired connections (copper or fibre)

A heartbeat trace symbolising reliable uptime

Quality

A wired connection offers a stable signal without interference, congestion, and jitter, ensuring reliable performance for streaming, teleconferencing and VoIP

A padlock symbolising secure

Security

Physical connections are harder to intercept than wireless signals, reducing the risk of hacking or unauthorised access

A box with arrows implying it is expanding

Scalability

Wired networks support more devices without congestion or signal degradation, making them a better choice for expanding infrastructure

An RJ45 network port with a lightning electric symbol

Power over Ethernet (PoE)

Allows wired connections to transmit both data and power, simplifying installation for devices like VoIP phones, IP cameras and access points

Key network equipment

For a solid network, we will procure, install, configure and manage the appropriate combination of:

Firewalls

A firewall directs data between the parts of your network and the Internet, monitoring and safeguarding from intrusions

Switches

A network switch connects all the wired devices together and intelligently directs data to the right destination quickly

Wi-Fi access points

Often ceiling or wall mounted for optimum coverage, each wireless access point (AP) is fundamental to connect to the Wi-Fi network

On-premise installations

The planning and implementation of your network has a lasting impact; best to get it right from the outset for optimal performance, reliability, and scalability

The planning and implementation of your network can have a lasting impact. Get it right from the outset for optimal performance, reliability, and scalability.

With 15 years of experience in designing and installing networks for businesses of all sizes, we deliver reliable, high-performance solutions.

Our structured cabling service includes comprehensive site surveys and optimised cable routing, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and seamless connectivity throughout your premises.

An example office structured cabling floorplan

Cat6 cable offers a great balance of cost, performance, and ease of installation, but in some scenarios, high-bandwidth fibre to the desk is the better choice.

When to choose fibre to the desk (FTTD)

  • If speeds over 5Gbps are required to the workstation for daily use (e.g. for video editors, graphic designers and big data analysts)
  • For long-distance runs exceeding Cat6 cabling's 100m limit
  • Where electromagnetic interference (EMI) is present, such as in hospitals or industrial sites
  • When maximum network security is needed since data on fibre is harder to intercept than on copper cables
  • To future-proof for projected growing data demands

At a glance

  • Structured Cat6 and SM fibre cabling
  • Fibre to the desk (FTTD)
  • Patch panels (Cat6 and fibre)
  • Wall/floor socket installation
  • Cable route planning including Wi-Fi
